Scott Steelman from Columbus, Ohio has spent his life as an artist, teacher, writer, producer, musician and composer. After performing many years for seniors, he has developed a multifaceted program called “InnerActive Arts”. The goal of this innovative program is to utilize poetry, music, humor, story-making, rhythm circles and other arts-based activities to enhance the quality of life for residents of senior care facilities.
“InnerActive Arts” seeks to build a culture of creativity and a sense of community that connects each “Inner” person to the world. Expressive arts transcend normal language as a means of communication to link people together. When a person is “Active”, that is, making, doing and expressing at any level, awareness and cognition can improve. A positive arts experience provides stimulation and fulfillment for participants and gives meaning to their environment.
